It has been a Wonderette-ful Year!

Last summer I played the role of Betty Jean (other wise known as BJ - yep, the exact joke that popped into your head) in the Marvelous Wonderettes at the Thousand Island Playhouse in Gananoque.
It was fun playing this brassy, goofy, class clown character. She won the audience over every night with her antics and the amazing cast of Tracy Michailidis, Cyndi Carleton, Alison MacDonald, and Piper Goodeve. Wonderfully directed by Tim Fort and with amazing moves by Dayna Tekatch the show was a hit.

The reviewers said:

“The comic stand-out is Laura Caswell’s rendition of It’s My Party. Miss Caswell is also a terrific dancer.”
         – Connie Meng, NCPR
Laura Caswell as Betty Jean is all sass and a bit of trash.”
 – Greg Burliuk, The Whig Standard

Then this summer, 2012, I got the opportunity to perform in the same show at Stage West Calgary in the role of Suzy.
Directed and choreographed by Tim French with music direction by Konrad Pluta the show worked really well in the dinner theatre setting.
A wonderful and lovely cast of girls including Melanie Piatocha, Melanie McInenly, Nancy Silverman and Amber Bissonette.

(ps I'm the blonde pregnant one!)

Dan St Yves of the Calgary Herald called the production "Simply Marvelous" and referred to us giving "oustanding vocal performances" awarding us five stars (out of five).

And now, I will continue my quest to becoming the "Wonderette Queen of Canada" by returning to the role of BJ in Winter Wonderettes at the Grand theatre in Kingston.
The show is full of Christmas cheer as the girls put on another last minute show, this time at the Harper's Hardware Christmas party.

I'm grateful to have had the chance to play these wonderful characters and to getting to sing some of the best songs ever written for women!
